Today's Topic: Aion

Well for those who may have noticed the new online mmo **AION** came out last week.


I'd have to say. It is bloody brilliant!

It has the realistic graphics close to Final Fantasy, but the interface and gaming feel of WoWarcraft, with the ultimate customization of the Sims. So have said it is just Linage III, but I've never played that so I can't say.

The character customization is what first attracted people, you can choose everything pretty much the same as a Sim character. Facial features, body structure, height, voice...etc. It almost reminds me of Saints Row II. Also at level 30 you can customize your gear not just with dye, but also with looks. Such as if you like these shoulders but they are crap and your current ugly ones are better, you can choose to take the looks for the nice armor and put it on the ugly but better ones. It is pretty sweet.

Moving around is easy enough, but by level 10, you don't want to walk anywhere anymore. At level 10 you are given your wings to fly. But there is a catch. You are only able to actually fly for a short period of time in certain locations. But you can Glide anywhere. Because of this everyone is jumping around like chimps until their wings catch air on good hill and take them a long distance. Most likely half of your deaths with be due to falling as you learn to fly.

PvP is fun as well, but it is more of a buddy system gank and spank. Everyone likes to move in a flock because a loner will be picked off and ganked. Very rarely have I seen a 1 on 1, match of personal skill. Who ever has the most buddies will win. The PvP I experience so far was locating and porting through a rift. Once inside my group and another's mobbed together tracking down any innocent Asmodian we could find. It was quite interested to see as 15 Elyos all glided off a cliff and landed on-top of a smaller group of Asmodians, catching them by surprise.

The money system is something I'm not used to, as well as you have to pay for Everything. Skills, death, gear, travel, etc. It's to the point that just talking to a NPC will have the charge you. But as long as you keep questing, you'll make enough to cover your expenses.

So far I give the game a B+
If the endgame content is good as well, this game will probably become the top MMO since Wow.
